The club offers 3 exciting and rewarding programs that ensure the experience is fun and rewarding for both the skater and the parent.

Long-Term Athlete Development

Skate Canada’s newly developed comprehensive Long-Term Athlete Development (LTAD) model is designed to assist coaches, parents, volunteers and administrators create an environment that allows skaters to fully develop and reach their potential in the sport, regardless of whether their goals are recreational or competitive in nature. In Pursuit of Excellence: Skate Canada’s Guide to Long-Term Athlete Development is for the benefit of all members and is rooted in the philosophy of “skating for life” and being active for life.

CanSkate (all ages) & Pre-Can (3-5yr old)

CanSkate is Skate Canada’s flagship learn-to-skate program, designed for beginners of all ages. When you sign up for CanSkate you will be in a program that focuses on fun, participation and basic skill development. You will earn badges and other incentives as you learn fundamental skating skills. Lessons are given in a group format and led by an NCCP certified professional coach. Trained Program Assistants assist professional coaches. The coach to student ratio is a maximum of 1:10.

CanSkate is Canada’s only national learn-to-skate program. It was developed by experts to teach the fundamentals of skating in a progressive and sequential manner. CanSkate offers:

What you need to participate:

All you need are skates, a CSA-approved hockey helmet, long pants, mittens, warm sweater or jacket. Dress in layers – it will get warm!

STARskate

Skills, Tests, Achievement, Recognition — this is what STAR Skate is all about!

STAR Skate offers opportunities for skaters of all ages to develop fundamental figure skating skills in the areas of ice dance, skating skills, free skate and interpretive skating. Unique in Canada, this program teaches figure skating skills in a group and/or in private lessons in a progressive and sequential manner. Skaters have the opportunity to take Skate Canada Tests through a nationally standardized testing system.

The STAR Skate program consists of figure skating skills in four areas – Skating Skills, Ice Dance, Free Skate and Interpretive.

SynchroSkate

Synchronized skating or “synchro” is a specialized discipline of skating involving groups of eight to sixteen skaters performing various group formations and maneuvers. The objective is for the team to perform as one unit executing circles, blocks, lines, wheels and intersections in unison to the music, while demonstrating quality edges, power and flow. Our club is very fortunate to have Synchro skating available to all skaters Pre-Junior and up.
